  • A lot of talk about nothing. Big deal they show who the lineman of the week was. All they said was you can move stuff around and how it was everyone wanted. You’re telling me it took 10 years to put in stuff that people have wanted and that’s it – moving stuff around. Whoopee crap

  • I would have to agree with Brian on this one. While it’s good they have finally taken a step forward I think it’s taken way too long to get to this point. Every year it’s seems they make minor improvements and say “Wow, Look what we did!.” The worst thing that happen to video game football was the day EA bought out the NFL rights. Now if we want to enjoy a lil NFL on the XBox we are forced to play a game that’s lead by a bunch people who couldn’t careless about raising the bar. After all why raise the bar when you are the only one playing.

  • I dont know how long youve been playing… but I remember a day when you could set beer and hot dog prices, advertise to your fans, sell naming rights and minor ad spots.

I remember a day when crappy trades got rejected and a good owner was rewarded with cold hard cash and a bad owner had the league take his team.

If you call what we had last year plus this seemingly useless “improvement,” the best ever, it looks like I may be switching to NCAA full time.

If Madden can’t replicate what was done in 2002 by 2010, then I say they aren’t trying, and don’t deserve my money.

  • The concept of the hot dogs prices and decent player progressions and lets not forget being able to switch ownership of teams after a season was really on fun on the last gen systems. They completed took out all the interesting and fun concepts when it came out on the next gen systems.

  • The best Madden I have ever played was 2005 because that was the last, last gen game of madden I played. The owner mode was amazing. It had all the things you mentioned above like making different prices and all that great stuff. The point is the game had depth. You could play years into a franchise and still have things to play for. There is one thing that completely amazed me that I’m sure not a lot of people knew about but back in the days of good franchise mode. After a few years Electronic field goal posts would become available in the stadium upgrades and if you saved up enough money as the owner you could buy them and have actual electronic field goal posts so when you played a home game they would appear for only when you kick the ball and looked like beams of light. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. The owner modes from before just had so much depth it was amazing and since the game his been next gen after about 2 years franchise mode sucks. Wheres the depth? I’ve got madden evry year since 1995 and lately the last few years I keep waiting for an improved franchise mode but never do I get this. If they don’t start releasing some information about a greatly improved franchise mode I’m done with this game. It shouldn’t be hard to do but I guess EA really just doesn’t care. I am one sad former Madden fan unless they somehow come through for me in the near future :(

  • I just hope that madden 2010 can finally do things that many players of the game really want. I want it to be harder for guys like T.O. to have full morale or make nagging injuries re-occur if not properly healed. 2k5 was made five years ago and yet madden has never managed to place a little personality of the players into the game like 2k5 did. I want players to demand a trade or release if i only pass them the ball once or twice a game but the are rated #1 on the depth chart. How about making sure teams get a little more excited after a win or maybe more like the nhl franchise and actually show players celebrating a championship. ITS THE SUPERBOWL FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. There are many little things that have to be added to the game or could be but personality pulls the player in. the same intros and celebrations over and over make you remember that your only playing a game.

  • Wow what do we want.. I have felt for the past few years the game has gotten from what makes it a great game. Sure I understand people want the real thing. Well if you want the real ownership get off the system get out of the house and coach your kids football team or heck if you haven’t got a real 3 dimensional partner donate your time to someones youth league and deal with real ownership headaches. For me I could deal with 2002 graphics but give me options. I guess you keep all the realism but allow some of us to truly be able to modify everything. Start with the old timers I want all of them. They have been the same for years. If you truly love the game and weren’t lucky enough to experience old time football well that’s what made the game. Allow us to integrate the old feeling with the new. From the field to the entire uniform allow us to put them in new gear or put the new guys in old timer gear.. Next it was cool to change prices and upgrade stadiums and all that stuff.. Allow us to make the game ours.. Please bring the game back to the game.. I love madden but I’m drifting towards ncaa more and more.. Give us cool cheats like back in the day.. Not big heads but super human stuff.. Allow us to turn off salary cap and get to draft the first six players to our powerhouse teams.. I want the best team with all the best new and old time players with options to fully customize our game and what we want it to look like. There is so much.. You can do.. Please keep this what it is… A fantasy.. And do you remember in the first maddens you drill a player well after the play that was cool my brother and I would do just that for hours.. Please don’t make me pay 100 bucks for a madden tin again this year to just play ncaa football more

  • this is not what i wanted. everytime i go in to franchise mode i want to RUN THINGS, i want the abiity to lose all my fans with a 0-16 season or super high priced tickets and consessions, i want to feel good when i win the superbowl cuz the feeling sux, i think madden should put owner mode back plus something like the association in nba 2k9, with sim city options. and why cant the put head coach and madden on a single blue ray disk. and like dean said its a fantasy add fun stuff that does not exist in real life like hologram big screen, and heated fields in the winter that get soaked in the snow or super light weight padding that makes your player never get injured . I will but the game but its basicly for a roster update (again). In conclusion i just want franchise to be called season mode and want a owners mode where that i can play for weeks. (dont hate on my spelling, grammar, englisgh…)

  • dude even if u wear pads u get hurt ive worn pads and got a concusison with a helmet on u will always get hurt u don’t just become invincible even the best get hurt look at brady he got out for season think u always get hurt u can’t be invinicible and dude get Head Coach 10 then if u want it to be like that in 20 years maybe it will be like that but it won’t be like that for a long time and stop expecting perfection cuz u sound like a doushbag rite now

  • I agree about wanting to go back to 2005. I liked the old way you would evaluate draft prospects and unlock scouting reports. They changed it a couple of years ago and I can’t stand it. Almost isn’t even worth the time since most of the reports are generic canned responses that don’t hold true anyway. That, and being able to jump teams in mid career once you built a power house to take over a division rival. EA spends more time changing the stuff they should leave alone. Graphics are obviously better but why can’t a CPU team throw out a trade offer? Couldn’t the Sega/ESPN game do that back in ’05? Overall, I agree with the general thoughts posted here that this preview doesn’t exactly have you on the edge of your seat for this year’s release.

  • is the sprint button still r2 button

  • guys you really have to stop being so harsh on the game makers first year working on this madden whole new crew and i see a ****load of improvment. second stop living in the past if you loved madden 05 so much keep playing it stop crying about the new games and how they dont amount to it

  • This guy should be fired!! Franchise mode has sucked, go play madden franchise on ps2 and go seee how much deeper it was 8 years ago, terrible!! HOW IS THE FRANCHISE MODE SO TERRIBLE AND BORING! FRANCHISE MODE NEEDS TO COME BACK TO THIS GAME. MADDEN NOW IS AN EMBARASSMENT!

  • I mean these guys cant be so lazy because they cant be so dumb! Think about all the things should be in franchise mode! Go play NBA 2k9, see how its deep and it actually makes u want to play a franchise. Madden has become the biggest joke in the gaming community and they deserve it. Get a brain or stop being lazy, WE WANT A FRANCHISE THAT IS ACTUALLY WORTH PLAYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Did he just say people wanted it for 10 years, funny the last ps2 version was how long ago? and it is probably 2 times better then this years franchise and it reminds me of madden. The stuff we should get we get 10 years later

  • these stupid madden creators said they knew people wanted this ten years ago!!! why havent you given it to us yet then. its ridiculous! give us old madden franchise where you can control things because playing the game gets reall boring after awhile.

  • Why hasn’t Madden played to today RPG crazed gaming environment? It simply amazes me how out of touch these developers are. I have been a loyal Madden fan since ’95 and every year I expect a revamped Franchise mode. IT NEVER HAPPENS! What true NFL fan doesn’t enjoy making the trades, draft picks and FA signings that could have brought their team to the Super Bowl? Instead of the ol’ real estate adage Location, Location, Location’ – Madden developers need to follow the ‘Options, Options, Options’ rule! Give me some depth! Give me some player & coaching personalities! Give me some playbook/positional interactions! Hell, at least let me control the price of the concession stand. Is that so hard?
I quit purchasing this game in ’06 until the revamp of EA Head Coach. I was in love with that game. It seemed like EA finally put some people with passion into the developing role. Granted, the game had its limitations, but at least it was a step forward.
Lastly, the most exciting part of Franchise mode is THE DRAFT! Booms, busts, sleepers, money-hoarding agents that extend the rookie signing into training camp, GIVE THEM TO ME! The first year draft of Head Coach ’09 was phenomenal. They had everything you could wish for in a draft simulation. Subsequent years seriously lacked the depth of the first yet were light years ahead of anything Madden has produced.

  • I am absolutely disgusted with this years franchise mode. The stats are inflated and there is no training camp or player practice to help progress your players. You can forget about me buying this game next year.

  • I see a lot of posts here complain about how the franchise mode has seen a dramatic drop off since the next gen systems came out. I agree 100%. However, I’m optimistic that it will improve. I go back to the days of the original PlayStation. I remember when the PS2 came out and I was disappointed, despite the better graphics, my features that I grew to love had been removed. Than, year after year, the PS2 Madden games would add more and more features that made franchise mode the best thing ever! I see that we are now going through this same process with the PS3. Possibly, the makers of the game are so focused on taking full advantage of the next gen system’s ability to create the most realistic gameplay and graphics, that the little details have been put on the back burner for now. As a gamer, the little details are truly what makes a great game but I am willing to be patient, at least for now. So I say to just give it a few years and just wait and see. This is I believe the 3rd next gen Madden game. I would say that by the 5th version or Madden 2012, you will get the best of both worlds.

I will say that I do believe that the explosion of online gaming has had a negative effect on the games themselves. What I mean is that the focus of madden now seems to be creating the best online gaming possible and forgetting about the people who just enjoy the little details of a great “individual” franchise mode.

  • I completly agree with everyone! Franchise is the only reason why i play madden for the creation of a dynasty. I recruit the best players in college take them the to national championships and import them into my madden and watch how great they become in the NFL as Franchise name players and fisrt round draft picks. They need to really focus on the draft, the options of blockbuster trades. Even some really good trade offers. Building your stadium into a masterpiece and turning your players into hall a famers. Thats is the kind of depth everyone is looking for. It is 2010 not 1010. They should show guys celebrating about getting drafted show videos at home getting that phone call thats what gonna send madden sales thru the roof not stupid little gameplay enhance meants. Here and there. I mean who wouldnt watch that a coach callin his first round draft pic. It should be exciting watch the draft on madden. Sh*t its exciting in real life why not on the game.

  • yea I am very disappointed with the new franchise mode…grant it there are a lot of things I like about it but it would be a lot better if they kept some of the owner mode features like changing a team, or player morale, etc. I still play madden but not as nearly as much as I used to and alot of people are the same…Its getting to the point where Madden is no logner gonna be the dominant sports game…People are def favoring FIFA now…yes….soccer….

  • The only thing that i will say is that he starts talking about “were bringing everything to them so they dont have to dig. ” The point of the game (to me at least) is to be almost a perfect simulation. You play 2010 on ps2 and its a totaly different game. AND WHO THE **** IS ASKING FOR THIS ****! Is it a board room filled with people that never played the game before, but whatever. make it complicated. Hell make it interesting. Peace

  • Let’s forget about this “being too harsh” business. How has Madden fallen off? Let us name the ways:

1- Why can’t you change owner 10 years into your franchise anymore?!

2- Why take away training camp, which gives you a chance to improve your player ratings?

3- How can you have a monstrous year and go up only a point? This is commonplace, and ridiculous

** I’d add to this the curious – and shameful – ability to “buy” progression via the madden shop. I see a relation here.

4- Why did they take away coaches ratings? I have no idea what i’m getting in a coach, whereas before they had position ratings as well as motivation ratings, etc.

5- All the other owner features (prices, attendance) that were inexplicably axed.

6- It’s even increasingly harder to get the outside WR’s involved; furthermore, they are far more unaware, and rarely snag the ball in one-on-one matchups ever, unlike how they used to in past maddens.

In fairness, the season stats are a bit more balanced (i.e Vince young not running for 2,200 yds and passing for 4,000).

And the additional position ratings are cool.

But way, way too many things were removed to reasonably give any applause, come on. If this was a new franchise, then I’d give the benefit of the doubt. We’re talking about loyal gamers here, and this is a slap in the face, nothing less.

  • “Extra Point” is a joke. No video highlights or anything, just boxscores. No way this is the “greatest Madden franchise mode” as the interviewer said, 2005 was the first Madden I played and the franchise mode in that was amazing. Since then, it’s been going downhill year after year. However, it does seem that they are trying to take a step in the right direction with this year’s franchise mode and I give the developers credit for that.

  • All in all, a colossal disappointment, and a huge drop off from the last Maddens.

A few other things I noticed:

In the “re-sign player” offseason task, what happened to “sim and cut the rest”?! If i sim it, the comp resigns them and i’m forced to cut them with a HUGE salary cap hit the next year!

  • The biggest bummer is not being able to switch teams and build up another franchise. I like the draft ideas.

Completely agree that all Madden developers care about is online play which i could careless about. Too much goes into it and it takes away from franchise modes.

  • I expect that just like with last gen, franchise mode will only get better. But, I’m with Jake. Without the ability to switch teams, the game gets boring in a hurry. I’m in year 4 of my franchise with the Packers. I’ve taken them to back to back Super Bowls and now I want to trade my back-up quarterback to the Redskins and re-build that team. But I can’t. All I can do is just keep playing with the same team that I’ve built and win easily with. This needs to be fixed immediately.

  • This franchise mode sucks you can’t even change ownership of your team you just play the same team forever

  • i am in a 4 man league with my 3 roommates and i cant believe that wee have to play each week’s game in order of occurance, ie, a 405 game must be plaed before a 415 game. it makes for total inconvience, and has never been like that in any other madden. madden has succeeded in pissing me off, they have a lot of ass kissing to do.

  • Like the others above me, I am extremely disappointed in the franchise mode, especially with the draft process, illogical progressions, and NCAA import.

This past season, I had a quarterback (Henne) throw for nearly 6000 yards and 63 touchdowns with 12 picks and 15 sacks and a completion percentage at 68%. How much does he improve?

    One point.

Dude has “A” potential and the greatest statistical season in history., and improves one point.

I have a rookie wide receiver who had 1600 yards and 32 touchdowns. He’s a fourth round pick with “C” potential.

    No improvement. Zero.

Player improvement needs to be closely tied to performance, though I do like potential accounting for something. On the other hand, Kurt Warner as an undrafted rookie would have had a madden potential of “F”., there needs to be major adjustment here.

Regarding the draft, I’m really disappointed in the scouting process. I would much prefer a system like NCAA 2007, where scouting replaces the old tangible numbers (40 times, cone drill, etc) showing the “real” and “fake” numbers so you can keep track of what they are as opposed to what you thought they were. It would also be nice to add in some commentary, similar to Madden 07.. A player with high awareness might “know where he needs to be on the field”, etc, in addition to the “hard” numbers.

During the draft, it would be much better to have hard numbers, forty times, bench reps, cone, available for ALL players–with revised numbers of scouted players. The symbol indicating the positional abilities is handy, but obnoxiously inexact. There is a huge difference between 90 and 96 speed for a receiver that is hardly discernible on the current symbol scale.

I miss the applause and boos of older games during draft picks.

Please remember that the heart and soul of the Madden franchise is Franchise mode, and EA should design the game accordingly.

  • It is sad that the franchise mode has regressed so much to the point where it is unplayable now.

Back in the PS2 days, the franchise mode was my favorite feature and it strengthened my love of the NFL. Now I am caring less about football these days because the game is so useless nowadays.

Here I come NBA and NBA 2k which can actually make competent franchise modes.

  • I’m glad I researched to this page. I’ve been a Madden player (PC) since it’s very begining in the 80′s (Apple and Amiga). Sega and PC in the 90′s. I’ve watched it grow into a tremendous package. I amd now buting an X-Box 360 and am disappointed that my favorite mode (Franchise) sucks. I play 2006 Madden on my PC at this time, specifically for the Franchise mode.I will seek out an early 2000′s version for the X and not even bother with the new one. It’s too bad that the powers to be sacrifice intellectual play for arcade crap. One play instead of 350 and they call it progress. I guess the dumbing of America even shows up with developers.

What was the last year that had decent Franchise in the X-Box version?.

  • I have an Xbox 360 and a PS2.

I have MAdden 2010 for both.

    I’m just bought Madden 2011.

    For PS2.

Point being the franchise mode is what Madden is for. I want to be owner, general manager, coach, player and fan. That is what the PS2 Franchise continues to offer. It could be better, sure. But the next gen versions on Xbox 360 and PS3 are just garbage. As if the true Madden fans from over the years wouldn’t notice. I hope that Madden 2012 brings the old franchise format back. It would be beautiful to see coupled with the new graphics and engine. But until then back to my PS2, its preseason after a super bowl winning year and a great draft.

  • X box version sucks. Franchise wise. 2010

  • I remember playing the 2006 and 2007 modes of Madden and i honestly like them much more than 2010. It always had owner mode where you could name the price for your tickets, parking, food, etc. Madden should also do the same thing NBA2K9 did where you can resign as a manager and only a handful of bad teams will want to hire you as a new owner. The only thing madden improved over the last few years is graphic but i still rather play my madden 06.
